Before taking Captopril, inform your doctor of all your medical conditions and medications. Certain conditions and patient groups require special precautions or may make Captopril unsuitable.

Key Warnings

  • Contraindicated in pregnancy — can cause fetal renal failure and death
  • Bilateral renal artery stenosis is a contraindication
  • Stop immediately if angioedema develops
  • Monitor renal function and potassium regularly

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Older Adults

  • Increased risk of first-dose hypotension and falls. Start low, titrate slowly. Monitor renal function and potassium closely as kidney function declines with age.

Chronic Conditions

When Not to Use

  • Pregnancy
  • History of angioedema with any ACE inhibitor or ARB
