Dysphagia: Red Flags & Emergency Signs
Progressive dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) is an alarm symptom for oesophageal cancer — 2-week wait urgent endoscopy is mandated for anyone over 55 with new dysphagia.

- ⚠Dysphagia with drooling, fever, and a muffled voice — epiglottitis or Ludwig's angina (do not examine throat; 999)
- ⚠Sudden complete dysphagia with food bolus obstruction — can cause aspiration; 999
