Resumen clinico para navegacion en espanol.
Anticoagulants prevent or treat blood clot formation by interfering with the coagulation cascade at different points. They do not dissolve existing clots but prevent clot extension and new clot formation.
Used to prevent and treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation, mechanical heart valves, and during certain medical procedures.
Anticoagulants significantly increase bleeding risk. Regular monitoring (INR for warfarin) is essential. Never skip doses. Inform all healthcare providers including dentists.
