Resumen clinico para navegacion en espanol.
ARBs block angiotensin II type 1 receptors, preventing angiotensin II from causing vasoconstriction and aldosterone release. They have a similar profile to ACE inhibitors but do not cause cough.
Used for hypertension, heart failure, diabetic nephropathy, and post-myocardial infarction. Often used as an ACE inhibitor alternative in patients who develop ACE inhibitor-induced cough.
Monitor blood pressure, renal function, and potassium. Like ACE inhibitors, contraindicated in pregnancy.
