Perindopril is an ACE inhibitor that lowers blood pressure, reduces cardiac workload, and provides kidney protection in hypertension, heart failure, and diabetic nephropathy.
ACE inhibitors block angiotensin-converting enzyme, preventing formation of angiotensin II. This causes vasodilation, reduces aldosterone secretion, and lowers blood pressure. They also have cardioprotective and nephroprotective effects.
First-line treatment for hypertension, heart failure, post-myocardial infarction, diabetic nephropathy, and chronic kidney disease. Also used to reduce cardiovascular risk in high-risk patients.
Monitor blood pressure, renal function, and potassium after initiation and dose changes. Persistent dry cough is the most common reason for discontinuation.
